Eyepatch
Throughout history, the eyepatch has been a most powerful symbol. Odin wore one after gouging out an eye and dropping it down a well in exchange for wisdom. Go Odin! Later, eyepatches became very popular with pirates. Then Nelson saw—with his other eye—how cool one looked, and a bit later Magwitch in Great Expectations wore one (in the film he did), and there was some Israeli general and an Italian villain in a James Bond film.
Traction(below) was a syndicated strip of mine. In it, the hapless Dr Proctor, desirous of getting to the Javitts Center to deliver his paper at a symposium, gets hopelessly lost in the NYSubway. Down there, in one of his adventures, he encounters the one-eyed Cyclops.
[Be aware, this strip dates from the early 90's when digital watches like Mic's (with calculators and French dictionary functions beginning to fail), though no longer quite the rage, were still much to be seen.]
And, actually, Traction never did get syndicated, I've stuck these excerpts in here to give it a bit of an airing.
